13 October 2026 · Event recap · Valencia, Spain
What should the sports sector be preparing for over the next decade?
Sport Singularity joined GSIC Summit Valencia 2026 on 7–8 October as a GSIC member, connecting with the wider sports innovation community. The two-day event brought sports organisations, researchers, technology companies and innovators together to exchange perspectives on the future of sport.
Looking ahead with evidence
On 7 October, Tolga Karayel, Doctoral Researcher at the University of Turku, delivered a keynote on emerging trends and technological change in European sport.
As part of SF4SPORT, he shared preliminary findings from environmental and horizon scanning informed by interviews with nearly 100 people. The work connects signals of change with the capabilities that sport and education may need in the years ahead.
The presentation considered performance and injury prevention, fan engagement and marketing, and sports management and governance. These findings provide a starting point for examining how emerging technologies could affect both professional practice and sports education.
For Sport Singularity, bringing research into these conversations is part of helping organisations consider the decisions they face today alongside longer-term possibilities.
Connecting across the sports community
The Summit created space to exchange experience across organisations and disciplines. Alongside the keynote, the programme included discussions on investment, technology and the practical challenges of innovation in sport.
We thank GSIC powered by Microsoft and everyone who contributed their perspectives in Valencia.
On the second day, the conversation continued through a Question Burst workshop. Read how participants explored the future of sport through better questions.
